Mary Louise Mills, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Ware Living Center in Amarillo, TX. Louise was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo, Texas where she taught Sunday School for the Ruth class and belonged to Heritage Club. Her favorite roles in life, however, were wife and mother. When her children were in school, she made all of their clothes, kept a garden, canned the vegetables from the garden, tended to her orchard and worked full time. She was a woman of great energy, strength, and talent, but mostly she loved her family. Education for her girls was very important to Louise. She made sure that both daughters not only earned under graduate degrees but both completed advanced degrees. One lesson her daughters learned from their mother: giving up or leaving a task unfinished was never an option.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Clessie Jouett, her brother Wallace Jouett, two sisters Juanita Luster and Sibbie Saunders, Danny Jouett her beloved nephew, and Ryan Gaskill who loved his Aunt Louise. Survivors include her husband, of 68 years, Preston, her daughters Pamela Mills of Lubbock, Jennie Vestal and her husband Harold of Amarillo, her granddaughters, who were the delight of her life, Amanda Rempe and husband Kevin, and Lindsay Schwartz all of Wichita, Kansas. She had two great grandchildren Amelia Louise Rempe and Preston Leo Rempe also of Wichita, Kansas. She is also survived by her brother Gene Jouett and wife Joy. She has a many nieces and nephews who will miss Aunt Louise. She is also survived by close family friends Mike, Janice, Cheri and family of Florida, Linda, Bill, Nikki and family, Scott and family all of Kansas, and Hayley and husband of Florida.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Camp Scholarship Fund (Youth or children’s) in care of FBC 1208 South Tyler Amarillo, Texas.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 PM.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Chapel. Dr. Howard K. Batson will officiate. A private family burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
