GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – Madie B. Sanders, 99, a longtime Amarillo, Texas, resident, died March 14, 2012, in Glen Ellyn. Services will be at 1:30 pm Friday in Amarillo Bible Church, 1300 W. 15th Ave., in Amarillo, with the Rev. Dick Remley and Hal Carpenter officiating. Graveside services will follow at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia in Amarillo.
Madie was born January 13, 1913, in Brownwood, Texas, and moved to Amarillo in her youth. She attended Amarillo High School and Amarillo College. She married R.L. (Bob) Sanders in 1933 in Oklahoma. They lived all their married life in Amarillo, where Mr. Sanders owned Sanders Automotive Supply.
Madie was a member of the Amarillo Bible Church and served as treasurer for many years. She and her late husband supported a number of missionaries financially and had hosted many missionaries in their home. She also taught in the church’s Awana program for children.
Madie was an active member of the Gideons International Auxiliary and served as the vice president of the Auxiliary for the state of Texas. She also had served on the boards of Faith City Ministries and Child Evangelism Fellowship in Amarillo, where she was treasurer for 47 years. She taught CEF Good News Clubs for children for more than 60 years and facilitated the after-school CEF Bible Club at Bivins Elementary School.
Madie lived in Amarillo until 2010, when she moved to Glen Ellyn to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her son, Calvin Lee Sanders, and by her husband of 62 years, Robert L. (Bob) Sanders.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn S. Hopkins and son-in-law, B. Wayne Hopkins of Glen Ellyn; grandchildren Brad Hopkins (Chrissy) of Denver, Colo., Curt Hopkins (Janice) of Windsor, England, Matt Hopkins (Ruthanne) of Glendale, Ariz., and Stephanie Pelkey (Jamin) of Fort Langley, British Columbia, Canada; great-grandchildren Claire Hopkins, Justin Hopkins, Jack Hopkins, Nathan Hopkins and Quynh Pelkey; and many nephews and nieces.
