Magdalena S. McMordie, 86, of Amarillo, died on Sunday, February 26, 2017, in Amarillo.
Rosary will be said at 6:00 pm today at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 Coulter, with Bishop Patrick Zurek as celebrant and Rev. John Valdez as homilist. Burial will follow at 2:30 in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas 79110.
Magdalena was born January 27, 1931, in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico to Alfonso and Rebeca Sanchez. She married Hobart B McMordie on March 31, 1973, in San Miguel, Mexico and they moved to Canadian in 1985. They moved to Amarillo in 1989. She was active and supported numerous civic organizations such as the Amarillo Symphony, Amarillo Botanical Gardens and TEXAS. She was also a long time, faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hobart B McMordie; six sisters, Lucina, Odilia, Noemi, Rebeca, Eva and Esther Sanchez; and one brother, Alfonso Sanchez.
Magdalena is survived by one sister, Laura Sanchez-Nieto; one brother Arturo Sanchez and wife Laura; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and special friend, Patty Hernandez.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to one of the above non-profits or your favorite charity.
