Marcie Agnes Harper, 90, died on Wednesday, March 7th 2012.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 10th at Jubilee Apostolic Church, 5804 Erick Avenue. Pastor Nathan Carrington will officiate.
Arrangements are through Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery.
Marcie Agnes Harper was born March 14, 1921 to Thomas and Laura Deckard in Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
She was one of seven children (three older brothers, two older sisters and a younger brother ~When she was
two years old the family moved to Amarillo where her father became a foreman at the ASARCO Smelter.
Marcie graduated from Amarillo High School in 1939. She later worked at Kresses Department Store on Polk
Street. She met and married Roy L. Harper, a local carpenter and builder, on October 3,1941. She and Roy
later had two children, Judy and Tommy.
Marcie was a devoted mother and wife. She was a homemaker who was very involved in her children's
activities. She volunteered at San Jacinto Elementary School, worked in Sunday School at San Jacinto
Baptist Church, and also helped with Scouts.
She loved and served the Lord throughout her life and became an active member of Jubilee Apostolic Church
in 2004. She loved her church family and was loved by them as well.
After her husband's death in 1984, Marcie lived alone in the family home place for five years before moving
to Winwood Village where she lived for twenty-one years. Marcie received an award for outstanding service
at Winwood where she served as secretary of the resident's association for seventeen years. She loved people
and made many friends there. Marcie was always a friendly and outgoing person who had a talent for
writing. She truly enjoyed receiving and writing cards and letters. In this way she made many life-long
friends. Poetry was something that she especially enjoyed and she wrote little poems on special occasions for
friends. Marcie was affectionately known as "Maw Maw" by her grandsons, Dewayne and Tim Pybus. She
was called "Nanny" by her great-granddaughters, Audrey, Kate and Avery Pybus.
Marcie was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Kenneth, Bryan, Paul, and Charles Deckard
and her sisters, Ruby Hart and Helen Little.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith Pybus and husband Jerry, and her son, Thomas Harper. Her grandsons are Dewayne Pybus and wife Stacey ofEI Dorado,Arkansas, and Tim Pybus and wife Melissa of Amarillo. Great-granddaughters are Audrey, Kate and Avery Pybus. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Marcie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family extends appreciation to the wonderful, caring staff at BSA Hospice, and also to the Plum
Creek Nursing Home staff.
