Mardella "Mardy" Marie (Peters) Watkins

Mardella “Mardy” Marie Watkins, 98, of Amarillo passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Mardy will lie in state for visitation on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 4pm to 7pm in the Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 2pm at Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington in Amarillo with Jim Shelburne presiding. Entombment will follow in the Llano Cemetery Garden Mausoleum. Arrangements are in the care of Schooler Funeral Home.

Mardy was born on February 8, 1923 in Inland, Nebraska close to Hastings to William and Anna (Rothfuss) Peters. She made her way to Amarillo as the bride of John W. Watkins in 1942. Mardy remained a resident of Amarillo even after John’s passing in 1963.

Mardy is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, and her sister Julia and brother Walter; as well as her nephew Russell Sheets and niece Bonnie Constable. Those left to cherish her memory are her three nephews, three nieces, her beloved friends in the Amarillo community, her church family from Washington Ave. Christian Church, and the friends she made through Meals on Wheels.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in honor of Mardy be made to Meals on Wheels or a reputable Pet Rescue of your choice.
