The family will receive guests on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 1 pm to 5 pm, at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home's Brentwood Chapel at 10 am on Monday, December 23, 2024, with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery's Garden of Cross.
Margaret Ann Morgan was born on August 21, 1939, in Borger, Texas to Roland Wilson and Una Essaline (Stroud) Morgan. On January 19, 1957, she married Harold Hooker, and later graduated from Dumas High School. After being away from school for a few years, Margaret enrolled at West Texas State University, obtaining her bachelor’s degree in education. Margaret cared deeply about education, not only in her own family but in the lives of every student she was blessed to teach. She spent the better part of 20 years traveling down into the Permian Basin and back into the Panhandle of Texas, teaching as many students as possible including her own granddaughter, Savannah, in Rankin. She spent six years at Sanford Fritch ISD before finally retiring.
Although retired, Margaret was anything but idle. She joined the West Amarillo Choral Group where she would travel to sing in places like Radio City Music Hall in New York and The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. She loved to sing, not only with her group but by herself on her own time as well. Margaret found solace in traveling; she visited every single state of the United States and spent a considerable amount of time in Europe as well. When not singing or traveling, she volunteered her time serving others at BSA Hospital.
Margaret was also quite crafty. Her talents included needlepoint, cross-stitching, crochet, and above all, Margaret was an incredible quilter. She was a very devoted member of The Church of Christ. Margaret was a long-time member of Central Church of Christ in Amarillo, and a recent member of Church of Christ at the Colonies. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Widowed Persons Service. Margaret also sponsored multiple children in foreign countries. She cared for others and wanted to give as much of her resources and time as possible.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Harold, who passed in 2000, granddaughter Olivia Hooker, brother Terry Morgan, and a niece, Lindy Morgan Danford. Those left to honor and cherish her memories are her daughter Karmyn Hooker of Richmond, VA, son Shannon Morgan Hooker and wife Audra of Midland, TX, grandchildren Savannah Stewart and husband Sean of West Columbia, TX, Dane Hooker and wife Katie of Midland, TX, Barkley Hooker of Houston, TX, great-grandchildren Weston Stewart, Bronson Stewart, Landon Stewart, Madelyn Hooker, Jack Shannon Hooker, and Mark Morgan Hooker; son Koby Hooker and wife Amy Amarillo, TX, grandchildren Morgan Ann Hooker, Avery Pennington, Rhet Pennington, Rome Hernandez, Creed Hernandez; brother Jim Morgan and wife Judy; sister Jan Howard and husband Rick; sister-in-law Joy Morgan, and many extended family and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Christian Relief Fund of Amarillo, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
