Amarillo

Margaret (Marge) Amelia Kenney

Marge was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Greenville, PA, to Raymond & Irene Pierotti.
She married George Kenney Jr. on Sept. 24, 1955, at the Sandia Base Chapel in Albuquerque, NM.  During their 68 years of marriage, Marge and George loved camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Marge especially loved doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren.

Marge was involved in St. Mary's Youth Program for over 30 years.  She was instrumental in getting a full-time paid director for the parish by developing a long-range plan.  Marge volunteered her time and talent to keep the program running and helped implement new ideas, program retreats, leadership conferences, and lots more.  The fantastic thing about Marge is that she did not have a teenager through this time.  She just believed in and loved young people.

Marge established several traditions at St. Mary's.  One is the Annual Senior Citizens Banquet sponsored by the youth to honor all the parish's Senior Citizens.  Marge started the Young at Heart Senior Citizen program at St. Mary's Cathedral.  She was passionate about providing a sense of community for the senior citizens and was known for the favors that she made each month.

Along with all her service at St. Mary's, she was the church secretary for 25 years.  Marge was Chairperson of the Renew Small Group Committee and was responsible for setting up, training, and assigning people to all these small groups.  Marge was part of the Homebound ministry of the parish.

Marge was actively involved in Girl Scouting for over 50 years.  From 1964 through 1983, she served as a Girl Scout troop leader, starting when the oldest of her three daughters entered the program and continuing until all the girls in her youngest daughter's troop had completed their senior program.

Marge was honored by the Texas Plains Council with the Thanks Badge, the Outstanding Volunteer pin, and the "Thank You for Gold Award Service" recognition.  She also received an Award of Honor from the Diocese of Amarillo for Outstanding Service in 1981, which was followed by being awarded the first "Women of Distinction" award in 1995 by the Girl Scout Council.

Marge was a devout Christian who deeply loved her family and friends.

Marge is survived by her husband, George E. Kenney Jr.; her four children, George Kenney III and his wife Heiadi of Amarillo, TX; Margaret Newsome of Eagle Nest, NM; Elizabeth Garcia of Rio Rancho, NM; and Patricia Andrews and her husband Thomas of Sandy Springs, GA; and her eight grandchildren Ryan Kenney, Bret Kenney, Michael Garcia, Catherine Keller, Christopher    Garcia, Sara Newsome, Harrison Andrews, and Kennedy Andrews;  and two great-grandchildren Christopher and Ezra.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the St. Mary's Youth Program, 1200 South Washington, Amarillo, Texas 79102, or the Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains, 7620 Hillside Road Sp. 300, Amarillo, Texas 79119
