Margaret Ann Coffman Kimmins

Margaret Ann Kimmins, 99 of Amarillo passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019.

A viewing will be held from 6-7 pm on Monday evening, December 30, 2019 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Park Place Tower, 1300 S Harrison St, Amarillo.

Margaret Ann was born in Avondale, Missouri on September 7, 1920 to Villa and Andrew B. Coffman. She moved from Missouri with her sister and mother after the death of her father in August 1931 to Groom, Texas.

Margaret Ann attended Groom High School with the class of 1937. She then attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1942.

Margaret and John Kimmins, her high school sweetheart, married in Cambridge, Massachusetts on July 31, 1943. She returned to Borger, Texas to teach at Borger High School and East Ward, while John went to sea.

After being a stay home Mom, she went back to teaching in 1964.Margaret spent the next 18 years teaching 7th and 8th grade science at Fritch Junior High School. She retired from teaching in 1982.

John and Margaret made their home in Borger and Phillips for 41 years. In 1989, they moved to Amarillo to be near their new granddaughter, Megan.  In October of 2015, they moved to Park Place Towers. John passed away a few months later and she lived until her death at the age of 99 and 3 months.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, her brother and three sisters.

Margaret is survived by a son, John Rick and his wife, Lynn of Katy, Texas; A daughter, Mary Ann Donaghe and her husband, John of Newnan, Georgia; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.
