Margaret Lee Lutz Stavros

Margaret Lee Lutz Stavros, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024. Born on January 25, 1947, in Paterson, New Jersey, Margaret moved with her family to Amarillo, Texas, in October 1949.

A proud graduate of Amarillo High School (Class of 1965), Margaret earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969, where she was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After graduation, she moved to Denver, Colorado, and began her career as a Systems Analyst at United Computing Systems, where she was named Outstanding Analyst in the United States in 1974.

Margaret’s commitment to education led her to earn a Master of Business Administration from the University of Colorado in Denver in 1990. She was also deeply dedicated to her children’s education and community, actively serving with the Cherry Creek Schools’ Parent Teacher Organization.

Margaret had a lifelong passion for service and was actively involved in many nonprofit organizations, including the Junior League, the American Heart Association, Junior Symphony Guild, Central City Opera Guild, Families First, Baby Haven and Urban Peak.

A devoted member of Wellshire Presbyterian Church, Margaret served as both an elder and deacon and cherished her time teaching Sunday school. Her vibrant personality and many talents shone through in her hobbies, which included tennis, bridge, and needlepoint. Above all, Margaret loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she adored.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Charles Day and Helen Osgood Lutz and her sister Ellen Osgood Lutz Smith.

She is survived by her loving children, Rebecca Lutz Stavros (Joseph Peterson Dumesnil III), Sarah Elizabeth Stavros, Charles August Stavros (Erin Marie McBurnett), and Anne Margaret Stavros (David Eugene Hughes). She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Elise Ellen Stavros, Lauren Linda Dumesnil, and Alexander Stavros Hughes. Margaret is further survived by her brother, Charles Day Lutz III (Holly Hearn), and her sister, Elizabeth Lutz Ingham (Orris Karr).

The family kindly requests that memorial contributions in Margaret’s memory be made to Wellshire Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Association.

Amarillo services will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jeff Smith presiding. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Wellshire Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Cherry Hills Country Club from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m.
