Margarete Papp was born on May 31, 1914 in Vienna, Austria to George and Francisca Fruhwirth.  She was the eldest child followed by her brother, George, and her sister Barbara.  She lived in Vienna until she was 18 and then moved to Hungary for a time.  Margarete attended business school in Vienna.  She remembered living through WWI and WWII.  The family fled Hungary to Austria and lived in refugee camps until 1950 when they immigrated to the United States.

She married Geza Papp on June 18, 1938 in Vienna.  They had a son, Attila and a daughter, Elizabeth.  She worked as a seamstress for Sears and retired in 1982. When they came to America they lived in Lazbuddie, TX for a year and then moved to Amarillo.  She was a member of St. Mary’s for over sixty years and was a member of the alter-society.

Margarete was preceded in death by her husband, Geza in 2006 and her brother and sister.

Survivors include a son, Attila and daughter, Elizabeth, both of Amarillo, TX.  She was very proud of her family, children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggest the memorials be made to St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1200 South Washington, Amarillo, Texas 79102
