Anite was born on January 13, 1943 in Hamilton, Texas. She married Richard D. Pitts, Sr. in 1959 and had three sons. She was a devoted wife and mother, serving as Den Mother for her sons' Boy Scout troops. A dancer from childhood, she also taught ballet to children in Amarillo. She was a loving grandmother to her three grandchildren, and was a loyal friend.
Fiercely independent, she had an incredible passion for knowledge, graduating cum laude from West Texas A&M University in 1981 and earning a Master's in Library Science from Texas Women's University. She worked as a librarian, serving as Group Services Director at the Amarillo Public Library for several years, a job she very much enjoyed. She served as President of the Amarillo chapter of the American Association of University Women, and as Secretary of the Texas Library Association. She was a member of the Texas Junior College Teachers Association.
A devout Catholic, Anite was committed to helping others, and she was an active member of several non-profit organizations in the Amarillo area, including the Amarillo chapter of the United Way, the Adult Literacy Council, and the Amarillo chapter of Rotary International. She was proud of her political involvement in Amarillo, serving as president of the Amarillo chapter of the non-partisan League of Women Voters.
Anite lived her life well, working to pursue and to share knowledge, and to better her community, and she will be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Margaret Guidry, her husband, Richard D. Pitts, Sr. and her son, Richard D. "Dale" Pitts, Jr.
She is survived by her uncle, Don Moen, Jr., of Las Cruces, NM, her son David Pitts and wife Sarah, of San Antonio, her son Christopher Pitts, of Virginia, her brother, John C. Guidry, of Amarillo, and her three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katy and Nathaniel Pitts.
