Margie Barnhart, 91, of Amarillo died December 4, 2018.
Visitation will be held from 6-7:00 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2018 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3400 S. Jackson. The family will have a private burial in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements by Schooler Funeral Home.
Margie was born December 2, 1927 in Wellington, TX to E.L. Wilson and Alma Johnson Wilson. She graduated from Wellington High School and married A.E. “Barney” Barnhart in 1945 in Dumas, TX. She and Barney moved to Amarillo in 1952 and joined Trinity United Methodist Church where they were faithful members until their deaths. Margie was a Sunday school teacher for all ages at various times, she served as President for The Women’s Society of Christian Service (WSCS) as well as the Chairwoman of the Missions Committee and sponsored several missionaries in Spain, Ethiopia, and Four Corners, New Mexico.
She was also a member of the HOST program as a tutor at Alice Landergan Elementary School.
In 1967, Margie began employment at Schooler Gordon Funeral Home as secretary assisting Mack Gordon and Maurice Schooler. She ended her career 25 years later as Vice President.
She is preceded in death by her parents, E.L. and Alma Wilson; husband, A.E. “Barney” Barnhart; and sister, Wanda Brady.
Margie is survived by daughters, Gail Dickerson of Amarillo, TX and Jan Herklotz of Huntsville, TX; sister, Wilma Green of Denton, TX; grandchildren, Scott Dickerson and wife Cindy of Amarillo, TX Brent Dickerson and wife Annie of Cleveland, OH, and Melissa Herklotz of Conroe, TX; great-grandchildren, Payton and Will Dickerson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ware Living Center for their love, help and concern for Margie, the wonderful people of BSA Hospice of the Southwest that cared for her during her last months. Also her special roommate at Ware, LaVerne Phillips.
