Marilyn Kay Jones

May 29, 1941 — June 19, 2013

After a hard fought battle with cancer, Marilyn K. Jones, 72, of Amarillo went Home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 21, in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, with Pastor Dale Bigham of Arden Road Baptist Church officiating.  Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Marilyn was born May 29, 1941, in Dallas to C.R. Brown and Arra Nell Goodman Brown.  She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1958 and attended West Texas State University.  She was the caretaker of her mother for several years after her father passed away.

Marilyn was the main receptionist at the Amarillo Independent School District ESC for more than 22 years.  She was nominated for the Robert Ashworth Award through AISD.  She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church sanctuary choir and sang in the Living Christmas Tree for several years.  She possessed a deep love for family and friends.  Marilyn was a kind, loving, compassionate woman who always wanted to help in any way she could.

Marilyn loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers.  She enjoyed watching Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow.  The longest time of the year for her was the time between the Superbowl and opening day of baseball.  She wasn’t able to attend any games in person, but she watched all of them on TV.  Many of her friends would bring back Ranger souvenirs especially for her.

Her greatest joys were her three great-grandchildren, Caison, Emilee and Aubree.  They each held a very special place in her heart.  When they came to see Gramma, they always wanted one of her special cookies.

A very special heartfelt thanks is given to Marilyn’s caregivers from Odyssey Hospice and Professional Case Management for their love and compassion while caring for her.  They became part of our family, and we will never forget what they did for our mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Jones; a son Kevin Jones and wife LeAnn; four grandchildren, Katherine Cline and son, Caison; Lindsey Smith and husband Matt and their daughters Emilee and Aubree; Allison Havens and husband Brant; and Scott Jones; her brother, Arthur Ray Brown and wife Beverly of Carrollton and their children; several cousins, and many, many friends and co-workers at AISD.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 20 at the funeral home.
