Marilyn Simpson

July 18, 1930 — January 11, 2018

Marilyn (nee Henry) Simpson, 87, passed away January 11, 2018, at Our Lady Of Victory nursing facility in Bourbonnais, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas 79110.

Marilyn was born July 18, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert R. Henry and Opal (New) Henry. She went through school in Joliet, Illinois.  After graduating from Joliet Township High School, she attended Joliet Junior College.  In 1951, she married Gordon H. Simpson and moved to College Station, Texas, until Gordon graduated from Texas A&M College.  They lived in Louisiana for a short time, then moved to Clarendon, Texas.  In 1961, they moved to Wilmington, Illinois.  Marilyn was a stay-at-home mother and wife, providing her family with a loving and happy home.  In 1975 she and Gordon moved to Amarillo, Texas, where she lived until 2008 when she returned to Illinois for the remainder of her life.

Marilyn was a PEO sister and a member of the United Methodist Church wherever she and Gordon lived.

Marilyn was preceded in death by Gordon Simpson, her husband and love of her life for 36 years, and her parents.

She is survived by three daughters Cathy (Leo) Van Duyne of Wilmington, Illinois, Sharon (Joe) Allen of Lamar, Colorado,  and Terri (Kelly) Tinsley of Canyon, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kirsten, Sarah, and Jennifer Van Duyne, Brian (Krysten) and Keith Allen, and Kyle and Kirby Tinsley; five  great-grandchildren,  Nola Lee Van Duyne, Annalysa and Katya Allen, and Kane and Stevie Tinsley; her sister Joyce (Dan) Hermann of Banning, California, a niece Judy Wood and  nephews Jeff and Rob Hermann.

Preferred memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made as gifts in Marilyn’s memory to the Brain Injury   Association of America (biausa.org).

The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the funeral home.
