Marion (Engelbrecht) Gabel

Marion Engelbrecht Gabel of Amarillo went home to Heaven on December 30, 2021 surrounded by her family in her home.

A prayer service will be held on Monday, January 3, 2021 at 6:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.  A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 4, 2021 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. John Valdez.  Interment will be at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Marion was born to Joe and Mary Engelbrecht on October 26, 1929 in Andale, Kansas. The family moved to Stephens and then to Amarillo in 1945.  She attended St. Mary’s Academy and graduated in 1948.

On October 12, 1948, she married John Leo Gabel who preceded her in death on September 8, 2000.

Marion worked as an LVN at St. Anthony’s Hospital until she retired and went to work at Amarillo Diagnostic Clinic where she worked for the next until her final retirement at age 73.  She married Raymond Prien on July 30, 2005.  Marion was a devoted and longtime volunteer for Olivia’s Angels.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ronnie and Alvin Engelbrecht; three sons, Gary, Kenneth and Keith; a daughter, Joan; her son-in-law Arnie Liekhus; and her husband Ray Prien.

Marion is lovingly survived by her daughter, Marcia Liekhus; her sons, Dennis Gabel and his wife Cindy, Kevin Gabel and his wife Barbara, Michael Gabel and his wife Serena, and Mark Gabel and his wife Bonnie; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
