Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 10 in the Chapel of Polk Street Methodist Church. Rev. Kevin Deckard will officiate. Burial will be held at 3:00 at the Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Martha Sue was born October 3, 1917 in Memphis, Tx to J. W. and Myrtle Noel. She graduated from TWU and received her Master’s Degree from college in Colorado. She was a member of the US Navy Waves from 1944-46. She was a Specialist 2nd Class, serving in Pensicola, FL. She taught school in Pilot Point, Texas, Roswell, NM, and Phillips, Tx. She retired after teaching more than 40 years of service. She loved to travel and was an avid stamp collector. She taught biology, and her greatest desire was to visit the Great Barrier Reef. She was able to visit Australia in 1987 with her most special friend, Helen Roller.
Martha Sue was a long time resident of Park Place Towers, moving there from Hereford in 1986. She enjoyed staying informed on current events, and enjoyed listening to books on tape.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and several cousins.
Martha Sue is survived by two nieces, Tippie Jones and husband Bill of Amarillo and Sue Henegar and husband Jim of Austin and their families; two nephews, Don Reeves and wife Katherine of Wellington and Bill Reeves and wife Lynda of Arlington and their families, and her very special friend for many years, Helen Roller.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174.
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 6:00-7:30 PM on Sunday evening, August 9, 2009.
