Marvin “Gene” Bryant, 87, of Amarillo passed peacefully into the kingdom of Heaven on March 14, 2022.
A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2pm in the Pandhandle War Museum Chapel, 4111 S. Georgia with Chaplain Chris Kutin presiding.
Gene was born to Marvin W. and Nora (Pickett) Bryant on February 2, 1935 in Amarillo, Texas. He attended Amarillo High School and enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served for four years during the Korean Conflict. During leave on November 27, 1954 in Clovis, New Mexico, Gene married Flonnie Lou Honea. Together they shared more than six decades of marriage and raised a wonderful family.
Gene was an incredibly intelligent man. Sharp as a tack and could easily remember any and everything. He often joked with his family that he was simply, “born intelligent.” Gene learned everything he could at an incredibly quick rate. This led to him realizing selling flooring was much easier than installing it, so he made flooring sales his career for 50 plus years. He loved to cut up and had an absolutely wonderful sense of humor. One thing that Gene took great pride in, aside from his family, was his appearance. He showered twice a day, always smelled good, and was downright handsome at all times. He always received comments on how good he smelled and how well kept he was from the nurses at the Thomas Creek VA Community Living Center, and anyone who passed him in the hallway.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, son Larry Bryant, brother Richard Bryant, daughter Glenda Sanderson, and many nieces and nephews. Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved Flonnie, sons Danny Bryant and wife Donna, and Brad Bryant and wife Brenda, his five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and many other loving family and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in honor of Marvin “Gene” Bryant to the Thomas E. Creek VA Chaplain Services, or you may make a donation to the Panhandle War Museum on the day of the service.
