Marvin E. Stephenson, 86, of Washburn died Monday November 15, 2010 in Amarillo.Celebration of life services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday November 20, 2010 in First United Methodist Church, 400 Trice Street in Claude with the Reverend Janet Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Claude Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.Marvin was born March 9, 1924 in Claude, Texas to Clarence and Ida Stewart Stephenson. He married the former Ruth Goldsmith on May 24, 1946 in Claude. They moved to Washburn in 1957 from Amarillo. Marvin retired in 1986 from Southwestern Public Service Company after 34 years. He was active in the Armstrong County Museum, where he was named “Volunteer of the Year” in 1999. Marvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Claude.Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Sam Stephenson and Glenn Stephenson and a grandson Eric Stephenson.Survivors include his wife of the home, a son Edwin Stephenson and wife Carol of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, a daughter Nancy Philley and husband Darrell of Washburn. Three grandsons Jason Stephenson and wife Tonya of Pampa, Shannon Philley and wife Tiffany of Washburn, and Adam Philley of Shreveport, Louisiana. Four great-grandchildren Sadie Stephenson, Shane Stephenson, Matthew Philley and David Philley.The family would like to thank BSA Hospice for it's wonderful care of Marvin. Mr. Stephenson will lie in state in Claude at Schooler Armstrong Chapel on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. and on Friday 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. The family will receive visitors at Armstrong Chapel in Claude on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.The family suggests memorials to the Armstrong County Museum or BSA Hospice of Amarillo, Texas
