Mary Kaltefleiter

Mary Kay Kaltefleiter, 77, of Amarillo died Monday, May 14, 2012.

Memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel Dreher as celebrant.  Burial will be June 30, 2012 at Calvary Cemetery in West Point, Iowa.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Mrs. Kaltefleiter was born December 10, 1934, in West Point to G.B. and Adelaide Snaadt.  She graduated from St. Mary's School in 1952.  She married James J. Kaltefleiter at West Point in 1962. The couple moved to Amarillo in 1978.  Mrs. Kaltefleiter was a health technician for the U.S. Department of Defense for 21 years before retiring from Amarillo's Military Entrance Processing Station in 2005.

Mrs. Kaltefleiter was a founding member of St. Thomas and was a member of the following organizations: The Altar Guild, the St. Monica's Circle and the rosary group at St. Thomas.  She also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Ladies BPOE.  Mrs. Kaltefleiter was an avid reader and had a penchant for crossword puzzles. And she loved to laugh.

Mrs. Kaltefleiter was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Kaltefleiter, in 2004, and also by a son, Chris in 2001. Also preceeding her in death were her sisters Lucille Kruse and Cassilda Reichelt.

Survivors include her daughter, Caroline Kaltefleiter-Ponirakis and husband, Dimitri, and grandchildren, Julian and Amelia, all of Cortland, N.Y.; a son, John Kaltefleiter and her granddaughter, Allie Kaltefleiter of Amarillo; a sister, Bernice Brune of Chicago; a brother, Don Snaadt of West Point; and many nieces and nephews.

A prayer vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17 in the chapel at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

The family suggests memorials to the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Boulevard, Amarillo, TX 79106; or to the American Cancer Society, 3915 S. Bell, Amarillo, TX 79109.
