Mary Alice King, 82, of Amarillo passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013.
There will be a celebration of her life at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 5, at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Visitation with family will follow. Interment will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 6 at the Abilene City Cemetery in Abilene, Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Mary Alice was born April 2, 1931 to Scott Judson and Alice Dickerson King in Abilene, TX. They moved to Amarillo in December 7, 1941, and she has lived there ever since.
Mary Alice was a graduate of Amarillo High School; Amarillo College; North Texas State University; obtaining a bachelor’s and master’s degree and served as a teacher in different schools within AISD for 35 years. Although she had high expectations of her students, she was also known to be extremely compassionate, encouraging and was a strong advocate for them.
Mrs. King served as an active member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Single Adult 5 Sunday School class there.
She loved to travel, read, do crossword puzzles, attending symphony and correspond with loved ones. Mary Alice was her family’s historian, and took great delight in keeping up with the details of everyone’s lives. She was also very involved and supportive of the lives of her friends, and was always the first one to volunteer to help anyone in need in any way possible.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother-in-law, Mike Fisher.
Mary Alice is survived and greatly missed by her sister, Frances Sue King Fisher, of Stanton; Nephew Scott Fisher and his wife Susan, in San Marcos; niece Michelle Fisher Hawn and her husband John, of Austin; Great Nieces Sarah Fisher, Lady Hawn; and Carrie Fisher Stephens and her husband Michael Stephens, Great Nephews Scott Fisher and his wife Misty Peterson, Dean Hawn, John Benjamin Hawn and Baron Hawn ; Grand-Nieces Scout Eleanor Presley Stephens and Dylan Delilah Marley Stephens, and Grand-Nephew Rio Valentine Fisher. Two surviving friends whom she dearly loved might as well have been family: Patsy Wright and Ann Pemberton. The family wishes to thank Zelda O’Neal for her tireless assistance in remaining independent.
