Mary was born March 12, 1940 in Amarillo to Donald and Josephine Honey. She attended St. Mary’s School and college in Houston. She married Alfred Leon Koetting on April 4, 1959, in Amarillo and they made Amarillo their home. Alfred remained the love of her life even after his passing in 2008. Mary worked many years outside the home helping to provide for her five children. Later she became a stay at home mother and housewife.
Mary was devout Christian and Catholic who had a deep love for the Lord. She showed this in many ways but especially through her kindness and generosity to others. She was very active in the Church. She was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, a current member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a weekly adorer, Stephen Minister, Lector, and member of several circles. She helped within the community by volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Family Support Services and kept foster children for many years.
Mary had many friends. Each of them held a special place in her heart treating them as part of her extended family. Mary was an especially good mother and grandmother. Her kids and grandkids were her pride and joy. Rarely would she miss an occasion to celebrate or spend time with them. If that meant babysitting, birthdays, holidays, sporting events, or just to show up, Grandma would be there. Her memory will be with us forever and her presence will always be missed. She made every day fun and memorable.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred on May 15, 2008 and her son-in-law, Jimmy Stanhope on July 22, 2014.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Stanhope of Glenpool, OK.; four sons, Tim Koetting and wife Kemi of Amarillo, Mark Koetting and wife Michelle of Amarillo, Matthew Koetting of Nashville, TN, Daniel Koetting and wife Nicole of Amarillo; fourteen grandchildren, Mike, Brad, Rebecca, Rachel and husband Nathan, Sam, Tess, Emily, Ross, Carli, Rylee, Colby, Abigail, Isaiah and Jacob; and six great-grandchildren, Paige, Walker, Alex, Abigail, Aubrey, and Aspen.
The family suggests memorials be made to Capuchin Spiritual Alliance, PO Box 50444, Amarillo, Texas 79159.
