Mary Esther Mills, 91, of Amarillo died December 12, 2018.
A visitation will be held from 6-7:00 p.m., Monday, December 17, 2018 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk St. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Mary Esther was born August 15, 1927 in Indiana to Nelson Brown and Wilda Zumbrum. She attended Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Mary Esther met and married Ed Mills in 1949. Together, they became members of Polk Street United Methodist Church in 1962 when they made Amarillo their home.
She worked as a teacher with The Amarillo Independent School District and taught at Bowie Jr. High for over 25 years. Mary Esther and Ed were avid basketball fans and were awarded the “Legacy Award” for WTAMU Hall of Champions in 2010. In April 2017, she and her sons proudly attended the dedication of the Ed Mills Fields at the Amarillo Rotary Park.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed Mills; and 2 sisters, Ruth Anna Young and Hazel Truelove.
Mary Esther is survived by 2 sons Stewart Mills and Todd Mills, both of Amarillo; 3 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Amarillo Rotary Baseball League in Remembrance of Mary Esther and Ed Mills, P.O. Box 20116, Amarillo Texas 79114.
