Mary Rose Myers

March 20, 1940 — June 20, 2009

Mary Rose (Eilers) Myers, 69, went home Saturday, June 20, 2009. She was born March 20, 1940 in Baytown, Texas to Elizabeth and Eddie Eilers. She married Al Rushing Myers in 1963, and they built their home in Baytown where they raised their daughter Laura Elizabeth.   Mary Rose worked for Harris County Precinct Two, under the direction of Commissioner Jim Fonteno. In her 26 years of service, she developed one of the finest county senior citizen programs in the US, starting the program from scratch with one old school bus. By the time she retired, the Harris County Senior Citizen Program boasted a fleet of buses and multiple senior activity centers, and was a model for senior citizen programs throughout the country. Through her work, she enriched thousands of senior citizens’ lives.  In retirement, she and Al traveled the country extensively by RV for five years, visiting 47 states. Their most cherished trip was down the Alaskan Pipeline, where they spent four months on their dream Alaskan vacation. Mary Rose and Al then settled in Groom, Texas to be near their daughter and her family. Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Al, her daughter, Laura Kuehler and husband Ron, and four beautiful grandchildren, Lauren, Alex, Damon, and Stephen in Groom, Texas and a loving dog, Roxie. She is also survived by four siblings, James Eilers and wife Barbara of Montgomery, Texas, Frederick Eilers and wife May of Fredericksburg, Texas, Theresa Eilers and husband George Coble of Austin, Texas, and Janell Eilers and husband Andy Frankel of Dallas, Texas, numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Eddie Eilers, and her sister, Eileen Carnes.  Pallbearers will be Elizabeth Coble, Sarah Coble, Jack Coble, William Frankel, John Koetting and Clint Babcock. Honorary pallbearers will be Jessica Frankel, Lauren Kuehler, Alex Kuehler, Damon Kuehler and Stephen Kuehler.  Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the American Diabetes Association, or the Groom Volunteer Ambulance Service.
