Mary "LaVeta" Rook, 85, of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Deckard of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
LaVeta was born Dec. 18, 1923, in Lubbock to E.D. and Madie Judd Hurd. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1942.
She was a payroll accountant for Amarillo ISD before her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland and Sylvan Hurd; a sister, Sybil Alexander; and her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Gene Rook and wife Chrisy of El Paso and Ron Rook and wife Jerri of Red River, N.M.; three sisters, Jane Moore and Annette Goforth, both of Amarillo, and Grace Brown of Waxahachie; and four grandchildren, Corey Powell of Guymon, Okla., Stacie Powell of Red River and Ashley and Austin Rook, both of El Paso.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk St., Amarillo, TX 79101-4298.
