Mary Catherine Zerm, 98 ½ years young, of Amarillo passed peacefully away in her sleep on Monday, May11, 2015.
Services will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m., this evening and a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, 2015, with Rev. John Valdez as celebrant followed by internment at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Mary was born October 28, 1916 in Cleveland, OH to Michael and Catherine Jordan. She married Wilfred John Zerm January 28, 1939. They were married for 62 years. Mary was a housewife and she and her husband raised three sons. Mary and her husband moved to Amarillo in 1985 to be closer to their children in their later years.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters, Rita, Leona and Ann and three brothers, John, Joseph and Robert, and sister-in-law, Jayne and husband James Emrick.
Mary is survived by her three sons, Gerald and wife Mary Louise; Ronald and wife Darla Gaye and Lorence and wife Mary Margaret; her sister, Sister Brenden Jordan; her brother William and wife Evangeline; twelve grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews in Northern Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Mary loved life and her family. She instilled a strong set of values that is carried on through her posterity. She worked her crossword and Sudoku puzzles and her afghan crocheting as long as she was able. She was regarded as the best “No Family in UNO” UNO player which earned her the coveted and affectionate name of “Old Ruthless”.
Mother will be missed.
