Sue was born in Canyon, Texas on May 5, 1930 to Mark and Irma Foster. She attended Canyon High School and completed several business courses at Amarillo College. In her junior and senior years, she played basketball for the first girls’ basketball team in Canyon history, winning District Player of the Year. She loved basketball and continued to play even after marriage and the birth of her first child. Later, she would wake up in the morning and tell us how exhausted she was because she played basketball all night long.
She married Bill A. Dodgin, the love of her life on October 22, 1949. Sue was a bit stubborn and resisted daddy courting her with “I’ll Fly Away” and teaching her about Jesus. Sue was one of the first people he taught about Jesus then accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. As they matured, she served as a helpmate alongside her husband to serve God. They started by going house to house to see if they could share the gospel. Later organizing and participating in campaigns to teach about Jesus our savior. She was active in home bible studies serving as hostess, cook, teacher, baby sitter or whatever was needed. She was passionately devoted to her Savior and read her bible daily until disease took her vision. She served as an elder’s wife for 25 years at the following, Southwest Church of Christ, Lawndale Church of Christ, and Amarillo South. As a supportive wife, helpmate and hostess for many home bible study groups, her commitment and deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ carried over to others giving of herself and true encourager. “the ultimate example of a Christian Wife and Mother” states her best friend, Kelli George.
She was passionate about fishing, camping, wahoo, Christmas decorations, parties, and family celebrations, Dallas Cowboys fan, faithful and diehard in good times and bad. Always ready for the draft and beginning of the season, she shared this with Bill and her children.
Sue was always a supporting, loving, caring mother for Becky and Bill. A proud , grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was very proud of Becky’s marriage to Doyle, her children, their marriages, grandkids and great grand-kids.
