Max B. Jordan

Max Bryan Jordan, 85, of Amarillo died April 1, 2019.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 S. Soncy Rd. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Max was born March 16, 1934 in Ralls, TX in a private home in the community to Mark Beckham and Ollie Edith Jordan. He spent his youth in Ralls and Crosbyton. He moved to White Deer in 1943 where he completed school graduating as a White Deer Buck in 1953. He attended West Texas College working in the maintenance department.

After college, he worked for a dairy in Amarillo and Lubbock and sold insurance in Lockney. Through these years, he and his first wife had four sons. They divorced in 1967. Max married Elaine Spurlock on July 26, 1969 at the Spurlock Chapel in Sherman County. Max became employed by the Texas Department of Agriculture in Amarillo. He was an Inspector 1 and 2 becoming the District 1 Area Supervisor retiring after 25 years.

After retirement, he worked for Edes Meat Market for 1 year, Corn Producers of Dimmitt for 1 year and Coffee Memorial Blood Center as a courier for 11 years. In his second retirement, he went into raising cattle with his son. He loved this life tremendously. The herd of mothers and babies stole his heart as each had a special name. This life suited Max as he talked to the other ranchers and walked the pastures in peace. He was a member of Texas & Southwest Cattle Raisers. Max loved to visit and laugh with anyone. He loved to fish, snorkel, run and walk his dogs. In loving friendship, his neighbors called him the “Mayor of Danbury”. Max had a compassionate heart and helped many people in need along life’s way. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church, and the Fisherman Class and Senior Adults Fellowship Classes at the church.

He is preceded in death by 3 brothers; Paul Glenn, Wayne and Wendell Jordan.

Max is survived by his wife, Elaine Jordan; sister, Sue Moore; 4 sons, Michael Jordan, Clay Jordan and wife Linda of Monroe, LA, Kent Jordan of Spur and Jack Dee Jordan of Richardson; granddaughter, Shanda Jordan; grandson, Andy Jordan and wife Michelle; 3 great-grandsons, Brooks, Barrett and Jameson Jordan of Baton Rouge, LA. Being an avid dog lover, Max is also preceded in death by 7 special dogs and survived by Scooter and Sadie.

Max willed his body to Texas Tech University for research.
