Melecia Guerrero Piseno was born December 5, 1916 and was born into Eternal Life, Saturday, May 11, 2013.
Melecia was born in the small town of D’Hanis, Texas, and was one of eight children. At age eight, she moved with her family to San Antonio, Texas to work at a pecan factory and also attended school.
She worked on a farm during her teenage years where she later met her future husband Trinidad Piseno. They were married in 1938. The Piseno’s moved to Idalou several years later and started a family. Son Bonifacio was born in 1942 and daughter Damiana was born in 1945.
Mrs. Piseno was a housekeeper and fluent in Spanish. She also cooked, babysat and was active in the local church. In 1965, her family moved to Lubbock.
Mrs. Piseno enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and cooking when she retired. Following the passing of her husband Trinidad in 1983 and her son in 2003, Mrs. Piseno moved to St. Ann’s Nursing Home in Panhandle, Texas. While there as a resident, she attended Holy Mass and prayed the Rosary daily. She was a Cursillista and a Guadalupana and had a great devotion to the Virgin Mary.
Mrs. Piseno enjoyed Mariachi music, playing Bingo and painting. Following the closing of St. Ann’s in June 2012, she was a resident of Bivins Memorial Nursing Home in Amarillo. Mrs. Piseno was a blessing from God and was loved for the warmth, laughter and thoughtfulness she shared with everyone.
Mrs. Piseno is survived by her daughter Damiana, Sr. Mary Rita Piseno of the School Sisters of St. Francis in Panhandle, Texas.
