Melvin Otis Austin

Melvin Austin, 75, of Amarillo, passed away on July 29, 2024. 

Visitation will be on August 08, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S Georgia, Amarillo, TX 79110. A graveside funeral will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Llano Cemetery. Jeff Dailey will preside over the funeral session. 

Melvin was born to Cleveland and Florence Austin on July 13, 1949, in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Carver High School and received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Prairie View A&M in 1970. While at Prairie View, he pledged to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.  He worked for General Motors in Flint, Michigan, for 34 years as a general supervisor. He was blessed with one child Rashod Austin of Houston, Texas. 

Melvin had many hobbies, but he really enjoyed car -racing, playing dominoes, and attending classic car shows in the Michigan area with his 50th Anniversary Chevrolet Corvette. 

Melvin was preceded in death by his mother and father, 3 sisters, Ingrid Austin, Barbara Garr, and Hazel Montegue.

He is survived by his son Rashod Austin, daughter-in-law Carrie Austin, and grandchildren Jordan and Jaxson Austin.
