Mildred Carter, 96, of Amarillo, passed away August 22, 2018.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Mildred was born in Crosbyton, Texas on November 4, 1921 to M.H. “Mike” Thomas and Katie Mae Tirey Thomas. She graduated from Crosbyton High School and moved to Amarillo in 1942. She attended Draughon's Business School, Holmes School of Shorthand, and Amarillo College. This education prepared her for her job with The Shamrock Oil and Gas Company in 1949. She would later retire from Diamond Shamrock Corporation in 1983.
Mildred married the love of her life, Uell M. Carter, on June 1, 1968. They enjoyed fishing, traveling, trips in their motorhome, and just being together. Their favorite fishing spot was Toledo Bend.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and Reaching Out Class. Her Lord and church were most important in her life. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary and the Lost Battalion Association.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Uell, and her parents.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Pahany of Rockport, TX; a son, Terry Carter (Meredith) of Rockport, TX; Grandsons, Clint Carter of Belfield, ND, Christopher Pahany (Janet), of Rockport, TX; Alexander Pahany, of Houston, TX and Andrew Ehrlich (Cristy), of Bismarck, ND; Great-grandchildren, Nathan, Caleb, Ethan, James and Alice;
Sister-in-law, Earlene Carter; a good friend, Dava Carter, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Samaritan’s Purse or a favorite charity of choice.
