Mildred F. Davis

Mildred Frances Davis died Tuesday, December 11, at BSA Hospice in Amarillo, Texas.
Memorial services will be held 2:30 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2012 in the parlor at The Continental Retirement Center, 1300 S. Jackson. Burial will be at a later date in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, Kansas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Mildred was born March 24, 1918 in Floydada Texas to Lawrence and Fannie Ball. She went with her parents to western Kansas shortly after her birth.
When Mildred was in fourth grade she and her family moved to Plains, Kansas, and she graduated from Plains High School in 1936.
Soon after graduation, Mildred married her high school sweetheart, William"Edgar" Davis. They moved to Wichita soon after the birth of their only child, Donald Edward Davis. The move to Wichita was at the beginning of WWlI and both Edgar and Mildred gained war-related employment. Boeing employed Mildred for over three years in the riveting department. After her employment with Boeing ended, Mildred attended Beauty School.
Mildred and her family moved from Wichita to Kismet where her husbari(j worked for Panhandle Eastern Natural Gas. It was at this time that Mildred opened and owned a beauty shop in Liberal for 20 years.
Upon Edgar's retirement, Mildred and Edgar moved to Greenfield, Missouri and then to Nevada Missouri. They later moved to Amarillo Texas to be near their son and daughter-in-law D. Edward and Melva Davis.
Mildred enjoyed the beauty of Mother Nature, often commenting on the bellowing clouds before a rain shower, the grace of a flying bird, or the fragile drop of a rose petal. She was able to capture this beauty in both her oil paintings and china painting. She was a gifted artist who loved painting china for family and friends. Her talent in china painting was such that she had a bowl accented with gold and luster that was on display in an Oklahoma City museum for a year, after earning an excellence award from the World Organization of China painting. Mildred was a Beta Sigma Phi Golden Girl and a member of St. Stephen Methodist Church.
Mildred is survived by her daughter-in-law Melva Davis and two granddaughters, Paula Davis of Seattle, Washington and Judith Davis, of Amarillo. She has one nephew, Mike Banker, and 3 nieces, Beverly Kenik, Donna Baker, and Nancy Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband William Edgar Davis, son D. Edward Davis, her sisters Margret Banker and Bernice Ball, and her parents.
