Mildred Elizabeth Barnett Hickox passed away on December 8, 2009. She was a resident of the Texas panhandle for 92 of her 94 years, and taught in Borger for 24 years, taking an active part in professional teacher organizations. Church work was of great importance to her, teaching Sunday School until she was 91.
Those who were blessed with her presence will remember her for her gentleness, loving heart, subtle words of wisdom, patient leadership, and unbelievable strength in her life’s many challenges.
Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband Horace; her son, Bill; and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister Rachel Johanson of Fullerton, CA, sister-in-law Winnogene Hickox Dew of San Antonio, TX, daughters Jo Carol Hickox Kimery of Indianapolis, IN and Zoan Hickox Ezell of Savannah, GA, daughter-in-law Suzanne Hickox of Tomball, TX., seven grand children and 14 great-grand children.
Services will be held on Monday, December 14th. Family graveside services will be held at the Claude Cemetery at 10:00 AM. The memorial celebration will be at Polk Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo, at 12:00 noon. Fellowship and visiting will follow.
Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, is taking care of arrangements. Mildred will lie-in-state there on Sunday December 13, 1-4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Mildred would like donations to be made to the Polk Street United Methodist Building Fund or Music Ministry, at 1401 S. Polk, Amarillo, TX 79101.
