Services will be held Wednesday, June 8 at 2:00pm in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Nancy Mires, 81 years old and a longtime resident of Amarillo, died Monday June 6, 2011. Born August 22, 1929 the youngest of 4 daughters to Hal R. and Mattie Preston Price in Childress, Texas. Nancy grew up in Childress where she attended Wilson Elementary, Childress Jr. High and graduated from Childress High School in 1946. Nancy graduated with a BS degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy from West Texas State University in 1966. She was a licensed Speech and Auditory Therapist.
Nancy worked for 1 year for Southwestern Bell in Childress before entering college. Nancy met Dwaine Mires of O'Donnell Texas at WT and dropped out of school when they married August 27, 1950. She worked as a secretary for the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and 15 years for Sinclair Oil & Gas Co. When Sinclair’s Amarillo office closed, she returned to WT to earn her BS degree. Nancy worked as a Speech Therapist for the Amarillo Independent School District at Oakdale, Western Plateau, Paramount Terrace, Wolflin and the North Heights Center from 1966 to her retirement in 1991.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Delbert Dwaine Mires, parents Hal and Mattie Price, her 3 sisters Jeanne Blair, Polly
Fouts and Martha Fullingim. She is survived by 5 nieces Beverly Blair Brawner of Guthrie OK, Jane Blair Buckman of Marble Falls TX, Carol Blair of Reston VA, Pat Fouts Wees of Reston VA, Becky Fullingim Burt of Kansas City KS and 1 nephew Hal Blair of Anchorage AK.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice Care of the Southwest,1301 S Coulter Suite 404, Amarillo, TX.
