Norma L. Brod, age 90, of Amarillo, entered into Heaven on June 8, 2024, in Amarillo.A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Shain Clark will officiate.
Norma was born in Winfield, Kansas on October 11, 1933, to Marian Ridings and Blanche Freilinger Porter.
In her earlier years, she worked for Cessna from 1952 until 1954. She married Joe Brod in Douglass, Kansas, in 1953. She and Joe ended up moving to Amarillo, TX so Joe could work for Pantex. Norma worked for Sears, in Amarillo, TX, in the Audit Department, to help put Joe through college. She stayed home to raise their daughter Jana and then resumed work at Sears in the Catalog Department until 1990. Norma was a volunteer for the Pink Ladies in the Auxiliary at NWTH for 21 years providing 6,153 hours of service. She received a Certificate of Emeritus in 2017.
Norma had a great sense of humor and a smile that would light up the room. She loved to dance. She was caring, compassionate and cherished spending time with her friends and family. Norma was always a dog and cat lover with a special affinity for Boxers. She was a “foodie” and loved to eat out! She prided herself on looking good with an eye for fashion. Norma also enjoyed the occasional trip to Vegas, Ruidoso or Santa Fe for a day of gambling. She was also an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. And mostly she loved Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; their daughter Jana; her siblings, Gene Porter, Jim Porter, Eugene Bush, Walter Bush, Bette Hoenig, and Roberta Galbraith.Norma is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, including Brenda and Wayne Delaney, Leanne Bush, Scott and Carol Porter, Jeff and Barbie Porter, Laura and Norm Dahlor, Barney and Vicki Porter, Jeff and Jenni Huckabee, Heidi Huckabee, Mike and Michelle Huckabee, Suzanne and Terry Kovac and Lisa and Jack Heyl.
