Norma Dawson

August 8, 1932 — May 2, 2015

Norma ValJean Rowsell Dawson, age 82 of Amarillo, Texas passed away on May 2, 2015 in Amarillo.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 6th in Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home. Chaplain Jim Fox will officiate.  Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Norma was born in ST. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada on August 8, 1933 to Jack and Elvina Rowsell.   She attended school in St. John’s.  She met her husband, H.C. Bryan Dawson, on the Air Force Base where she worked. They were married on October 15, 1952 and had been married sixty two years.
Norma was a homemaker all her life.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She was also an avid golfer.  She volunteered for a variety of organizations.  Throughout her life she was actively involved in a variety of civic organizations.  Enid was always engaged in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives and activities.
Norma is survived by her husband Bryan of the home.  She has three other siblings one of which, Georgie Martin of Gibsons, British Columbia, Canada preceded her in death, Maureen Bentley of Gibsons, British Columbia, Canada, and Ralph Rowsell of Toronto, Canada; her five children, Neil Dawson, who also preceded her in death, Cindy McNicholas and spouse Thomas of Checotah, Oklahoma, Johnny Dawson and spouse Tanner VosKamp of Palm Springs, California, Scott Dawson and spouse, Mihwa of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Christy Thomas of Palm Springs, California; her five grandchildren, Sophie Dawson, Shannon Riddle, Patrick McNicholas, Bryan Dawson and Cory.
Norma was a friend to many and never met a stranger.  When asked about her life, she would respond, “It was the most fun I have ever had!”
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation,  411 S. Fillmore, Amarillo, TX 79101 or a favorite charity.
