Norma Claire Sisemore

October 9, 1940 — January 30, 2019

Norma (Nomie) Sisemore, 78, died on January 30, 2019. Norma was a member of St Thomas the Apostle Parish in Amarillo.  She began her nursing career in Boston before moving to Borger.  She served as a nurse in many area hospitals before joining St Anthony’s Hospital in 1967 where she eventually became the Director of Recovery.  Norma officially retired from BSA in 2006; however, she enjoyed working in a PRN status until 2008.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents Norma Lockwood-Kelley and Joseph Lockwood, and her brother Joseph Lockwood, Jr.  She is survived by Brett Sisemore and wife Heidi of Kingwood, TX, Trish Eklund and husband, Donny, Angel Norman and husband Todd, Dawn Graham and husband, Michael, Joseph Lockwood III and wife, Megan, and Frank Lockwood and wife, Tori, all of Amarillo.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Whitney, Holly, Mitch, Julie and husband, David, Shelby, Ashley, Kiera, Ryder, Addison, Ben, Payton, Jerzi, and Hadli.

Norma loved her family.  Her grandchildren were very important to her.  She was often their chauffeur to and from their schools to gymnastics, soccer, dance, and home. The kids loved riding in Nomie’s taxi.  She loved reading and watching crime shows.  She bought her grandkids Kindles with linked accounts so she could share her love of reading by buying books for them.

Norma loved shopping with her girls and would take them on shopping trips to Dallas.  She frequented TJ Maxx, but also loved a good bargain at QVC and HSN.  The family was firmly made aware of this every Christmas when she would do her best to fill up the largest gift bags she could buy at TJ Maxx with all sorts of purchases she made. She found items none of us even knew we needed.  It was not unusual to get a phone call in which “Turn on to QVC…” proceeded even “hello.”  Norma spoiled her sons and sons-in-law by trying to find the coolest gadgets and her daughters and daughters-in-law the latest beauty finds, and everyone always loved getting a new pair of Bombas socks.

Norma, much to her grandkids and some of her children’s’ dismay would not eat at McDonald’s.  The running family joke was to threaten to bring her McDonald’s to make her eat it.  It got especially funny when she got the oldest local grand kid a Little Tikes car that he would drive around her house.  He would always visit “McDonalds” to get “hambingers, fries, and a Diet Coke for his Nome!”

She loved making chocolate strawberries with her grand kids, having them stay over to watch movies on weekends, playing with them, and always took pride in their growth and achievements.  If they didn’t have time to make something, the grand kids always left with gum, popcorn, or other snacks to take with them.

Norma’s love for Nolan Ryan was well known.  She would haul the family to Arlington to watch him pitch any time she could.  She was always proud to share “The Punch” video on Facebook every August.

During her nursing career, she mentored and adopted many young nurses under her wing.  Many of those nurses became close friends of hers and of her family.  The youngest ones also shared in calling her “Nomie.” She took much pride in their professional growth and achievements and would brag on them as if they were her own children.

Norma was a member of the Texas Association of Post-Anesthesia Nurses where she served many years as an officer, including President of the association.

Knowing that she would want to continue helping young nurses, the family suggest memorials be made to “Eunice King Scholarship Fund”-Amarillo College Nursing Program A.C. Foundation, PO Box 447, Amarillo, TX 79178.
