Opal Belle Freeman, 89, of Amarillo died Friday, December 11, 2015, in Amarillo.
Interment will be at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, December 12, 2015 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial Services will follow at 10:00 A.M. at Temple Baptist Church 3208 S. Van Buren with Pastor Chad Mantooth officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia.
Opal was born in Wellington, Texas to Clarence and Ruby Tate. She married Kenneth Freeman and together they raised their family in Amarillo, Texas. Opal was a graduate of Amarillo High School and received her Master’s Degree at West Texas A&M University. She taught honors English at Canyon High School and Amarillo High School. Opal was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school and Discipleship Training Classes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth Freeman, and a brother Bud Tate.
Opal is survived by her son Mark Freeman and wife Kari of Lone Tree, CO; two grandchildren Benton Freeman and wife Annie of Portland,OR, and Blythe French and husband Luke of Parker, CO; four great grandchildren; two sisters Mariella Gibbs of Bartlesville, OK and Clarice Beckett and husband Bill of Amarillo, TX; a sister in law June Tate of Irving, TX; and many more loving friends.
