Ouida Gabriel (Poulain) Garcia

August 8, 1975 — April 22, 2021

Ouida Gabriel (Poulain) Garcia, 45, of Amarillo passed away April 22, 2021.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S Washington. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Ouida was born on August 8th, 1975 in Moline, IL. Ouida lived in the Quad City Area for her elementary years with quick bouts in Minnesota and Denver, CO. Ouida also lived in Quincy, IL for a brief stint before moving to Hannibal, Mo where she graduated high school in 1993. Her love for the Mid West never left her as she believed the Mississippi River was her anchor to who she was as a human being.

In 1994 Ouida met the man who would become her husband, Damian Garcia. He was stationed in Virginia at the time in the US Navy. For 5 months  writing letters and spending hours  talking on the phone was how they cemented their love. Damian and Ouida Gabriel married September 29, 1995 in Moberly, MO. Their marriage was everything Ouida needed in life as it provided unconditional love, a stable foundation and a man who adored his wife. Ouida sincerely was everything Damian needed as well. In October 1995 they moved to Amarillo TX. Ouida, used to the trees of the Mid West hated the plains at first and she despised the sticker “I wasn’t born here but got here as fast as I could.” After living in Texas for a couple years she stated she will never live anywhere else as Texas is Gods country. She did her duty to Texas by producing 6 amazing children who love Texas as much as she does.

Damian and Ouida would have 6 children. Nicole, Abigail, Jubilee, Joseph, Isabella, and Serenity. A daughter Gabrielle Angel preceded Ouida in death as well as several babies lost due to miscarriage. Ouida knows she will meet these children again in heaven.

Ouida was a member of Washington Ave Church. Ouida loved the people of WACC more than they probably know. She hopes they watch over her family. She loved Pastor Jim and Pastor Shane. Ouida was known to say God’s hand was upon those men.

Ouida worked as a cashier at United Market Street. She sincerely enjoyed working with others there and loved seeing returning guest to the store. If Ouida would have a work family, these people are the ones she would choose. Ouida is so very thankful to each and every one of you who made my days brighter especially during such a difficult period in her life. God bless all of you.
