Ovella Post

Ovella Post, 92, of Amarillo died September 5, 2022.

Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Lottie “Ovella” Smith Post was born February 18, 1930 in Quinton, OK to Sadie and Hillie Smith. At the young age of 13, she lost her mother. Her father then remarried and relocated to Texas where she proudly remained to be an “OKIE.” Ovella continued her schooling in Amarillo and attended Amarillo High School. She later married Monroe Burnam and together they would have seven children. Over the years, Ovella would help to raise, and love her children also working outside of the home. She would eventually remarry the children’s stepfather, Clyde Post “the love of her life” as she so often referred to him. Together, they would see many grandchildren come into the family. Ovella was blessed with many, many people who loved her. She had 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 12 great great-grandchildren. Up until a few years ago, she would try and attend as many games, concerts, birthday dinners and holidays with whomever she could because it made her just as happy to be in their lives.

Ovella’s love of family was not the only thing she was known for. Everyone knew her for her love of flowers. If you needed to find her, go look in the garden or her greenhouse. She would be there, and she would either put you to work or have you looking at each one as you “must” smell them. As “Don’t they smell so good?” as a very common phrase.

For the past year, she has lived with her daughter Teresa. Ovella had made sure that Teresa took care of her plants and fed the squirrels outside the window fresh pecans everyday. She watched for the delivery man dropping off packages and helped her when she crocheted her famous towels. Ovella’s absolute best times were the trips to California to visit her cousin Lucille and reminisce of the day’s past. She looked forward to each vacation and time spent with family. She was a firecracker even at 92 years old but continually let us all know how much she loved us. We can only hope she knows we loved her just as much. Her 92 years spent on earth was time spent well with her loved ones and though we wish there was more time left, we know what an AMAZING world she has entered. Ovella is preceded in death by her parents, Sadie and Hillie Smith; stepmother, Anna Smith; sisters, Viola Floyd and Jeanetta McNeill; brothers, J.W. Floyd and Hillie “Dynamite” Smith; daughter, Vickie Ovella Hendrickson Valdez; the children’s father, Monroe Burnam; and her husband, Clyde Post.

She is survived by her children, Linda Williams and husband, Scott of Aransas Pass, TX, Jay Burnam of Euless, TX, Wayne Burnam and wife, Kay of Amarillo, TX, Teresa Wesley and husband, Ric of Amarillo, TX, Elaine Kern and husband, Jimmy of Nazareth, TX, and Jeretta Adame and husband, Pat of Odessa, TX; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 12 great great-grandchildren.
