PATSY R. WINFREY, age 83 of Amarillo, died September 1, 2014
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, September 4th at 3:00 PM at St. Stephen United Methodist Church. The Dr. Jim Smith and Dr. Stan Cosby will be officiating. A private burial will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Patsy was born in October 2, 1930 in Wichita Falls, TX to Clarence William and Ilene Dunaway Jackson. Patsy married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Pat Alexander Winfrey on January 19, 1951 in Wichita Falls.
Patsy was a wife and homemaker. She was very involved in her four children’s activities; from Den mother, room mother, Bluebird leader, band supporter, Little League Mom and Girl Scout Leader.
Patsy volunteered for many organizations including Meals on Wheels for whom she volunteered for over forty years, Church Women’s United, League of Women’s Voters, and taught sewing at the YMCA. Patsy was active in West Texas A&M University Foundation and was inducted in to the Old Main Society in 2010.
She was very active in her church, St. Stephen United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Bridgebuilders Sunday School Class, the STARS Choir, served as a greeter and served in many other capacities at the church.
Patsy enjoyed quilting with her special quilting friends and playing bridge. She also loved the symphony, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Pat A. Winfrey in September 2013, her parents; a stepfather, Chester Starks; a son, Dr. Michael K. Winfrey; a daughter, Mary Ann Winfrey Juels; and a granddaughter, Bess Morgan Winfrey.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM.
Patsy is survived by her daughter, Janet Samuelson and her husband Brad of Arlington; her son David Winfrey and his wife Mary Jo of Orange; a son in law, Todd Juels and wife Leslie of Lubbock; daughter in law Rita Winfrey Woodfruff of North Richland Hills; and her precious grandchildren, Bonnie Woody and her husband Wade, Anna Drew Kirk and her husband Landon, Danielle Samuelson, Blake Samuelson, Molly Winfrey, Sam Juels and Luke Juels; and her great grandchildren Trevor, Dylan, and Lindsey Kirk; Calen, Ella and Georgia Woody, and Berkley Samuelson.
Patsy is also survived by her sister, Bettye Langston of Derby, Kansas; her brother C.W. “Cedar” Jackson and his wife Barbara of Cedar Hill; her nieces and nephews, Anita Tubbs and her husband Jackie of Waco, Paul Langston and his wife Milna of Shawnee, Kansas, Debbie Killen and her husband John of Derby, Kansas; her niece Judy Nance of Arlington and Leesa Jackson of Cedar Hill with numerous great nieces and nephews. Patsy is also survived by her many loving friends in Amarillo.
