Patsy Huff Wright, age 84, of Amarillo died January 11, 2016.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 15th at Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Burt Palmer, Rev. Kevin Deckard and Rev. Marty Hammrick officiating. Private interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Patsy was born April 25, 1931 in Canadian to Steve (Pat) and Sallie Young Huff. The daughter of a cattle rancher, she grew up on the Huff Ranch twenty eight miles southeast of Canadian. Patsy graduated from Canadian High School in 1948, and received her Bachelors and Master’s degree from then West Texas State University.
Patsy taught school for twelve years in Amarillo, seven at Avondale and five at Palo Duro High. While at Palo Duro she met and married Philip Wright on December 12, 1962. Patsy and Philip remained loyal to each other for 44 years, prior to Philips death in 2006. She became a stay at home mom to their two boys, Lee and Len.
Patsy lived a life of service; to Polk Street United Methodist church since 1954 (an active member of Mary and Martha’s Sunday School), to her community, and to her family. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for more than twenty years, and worked to start Camp Alphie (camp for cancer children and their parents). She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
When not in the kitchen, baking or cooking for families in need, for church events, or for her family, Patsy spent countless hours watching her grandchildren play their sports, and even more hours at WT sporting events. Patsy and Philip were a fixture in the bleachers at Panhandle volleyball games for decades and loved to support the local teams.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, staff and volunteers of BSA Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care extended to Patsy and her family. Drs. Stewart, Rankin and Jenkins together with Sharon, Shari, Shannon, Diana, Betty, Mary, Erin, Andrea, Christie, Stacy, Sonia, Holly, Twilla and Nancy cared for Patsy with unsurpassed skill and kindness, for which the family will be forever grateful.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father Pat and Sallie Huff, her brother Boyd Huff, and husband, Philip Wright.
Patsy is survived by her sons, Lee Wright and wife Tammy of Flower Mound, TX and Len Wright and wife Robin of Cypress, TX, her sister Fran Morrison of Pampa, and her 5 grandchildren, Emily, Kylie, Brady, Brock, and Kinsie.
The family suggests memorials be made to Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 South Polk, Amarillo, TX 79101, or the Patsy and Philip Wright Scholarship Fund at West Texas A&M University.
