Paul D. Wilbur

September 23, 1955 — July 4, 2023

Amarillo

Paul Wilbur, age 67, of Amarillo, entered the gates of Heaven at his home on July 4, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Public viewing will be on Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.  A funeral will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Paul was born in Dallas to his parents, Clarence and Nellie Mae Karnes Wilbur.  He attended Wellington High School and later went on to graduate from TSTI.

He met the beautiful, slightly older Darla Darling, and the couple were married on November 15, 1976, in Amarillo.  That day, he took Darla and her children to be his; and that was a fact that never changed. Paul was devoted to his family, blood or not.  He worked to provide for them and loved each of them fiercely.  He was selfless in giving and generosity, always ensuring everyone’s needs were met, whether big or small.

Shortly after graduation, Paul began a career as a welder.  As time went on, he became more and more proficient and found himself in the position of a welding inspector.  He traveled all over the US to oversee projects.  Darla would travel to visit him about every two weeks, and the time they spent together was priceless.  They would go on dates and dance every chance they got!  Paul was a master leading Darla around the dance floor, an activity he enjoyed until his health declined.  In 2022, Paul retired, staying home to spend the remainder of his life surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara DiMassey; a brother, Charles Wilbur; and a son-in-law, Curtis Link.

Paul is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Darla; his children, Cindy Link; Shannon Fowler, Lance Fowler, Tambra Terbush and her husband Scott, Sabrina Dean and her husband Gary, and Desiree Walker and her husband Jason; a brother, Bryan Wilbur; twenty-two grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
