Lanetta “Pauline” Sutterfield, 90, of Amarillo, passed peacefully in her home on September 20, 2023.
The family will receive guests at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, on Friday, September 21, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Llano Cemetery, 2500 S. Hayes, on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Brian Mashburn officiating. Pauline’s life will be celebrated on Monday, September 25, 2023, at Southwest Church of Christ, 4515 Cornell St., at 10 a.m., with Elder Jerry Morgan presiding.
Pauline was born in Magic City, Wheeler County, Texas, on August 10, 1933, to Paul Edward and Mildred (Beach) Bentley. She was a graduate of Shamrock High School. In 1951, in Wheeler, Texas, Pauline exchanged vows with Ray Sutterfield in the home of the pastor who married them. Ray was so nervous that he dropped the ring, and they were forced to lift the couch to retrieve it. Ray and Pauline built a strong, faith-based family and remained devoted to each other until Ray’s passing in 2008.
Pauline did many things throughout her life to keep her busy. She finished her “working” life as an Administrative Assistant in the medical field before retiring. She was an amazing cook who could whip up just about any dish your tummy desired. She had a very large cookbook collection, and they were all well-read. Coupled with her cooking skills, she was also an amazing cake decorator. When not in the kitchen, Pauline could be found playing card games of all sorts. Her favorites were Bridge and Samba, which she played weekly with many friends. She also enjoyed Line and Square Dancing and was a member of clubs for many years.
Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray Sutterfield, brother Eddie Bentley, sister Jeri Blodgett, and infant grandson Devon H. Sutterfield. Those left to cherish her memories are her sons Dan Sutterfield and wife Trish and Mike Sutterfield and wife Deb, sister Gayle McKay and husband John; brother Mack Bentley and wife Sue; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and many bonus grandchildren, family, and dear friends.
