Ms. Skaggs was born on August 14, 1929 in Hansford County, Texas to Amos and Ruth Burke.  She spent her early years in Follett before her family moved to Spearman where she attended school, graduating from Spearman High School in 1947.  During high school, Pearl loved playing basketball and the French horn in the marching band. After graduation, Pearl moved to California to live with her aunts while attending Compton College in Compton, CA.

After she married, Pearl moved back to Texas and settled in Panhandle where she lived most of her adult life.  She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she worked with pre-school children.  She was also very involved with PTA, Cub Scouts and other activities involving her children.  She volunteered her time taking cancer patients to their treatments.  She became a business owner in her later years.  Pearl moved to Amarillo in 1994 and was active in the International Club and Meals on Wheels.  She enjoyed traveling with her friends and attending the Symphony and Amarillo Little Theater.  In 2003, Pearl moved to Park Place Towers.  She enjoyed her years there and made many friends.  An excellent bridge player, Pearl enjoyed many evenings playing bridge with residents at Park Place.  Her faith and trust in Christ and quiet determination were a source of strength and left a lasting memory.

Ms. Skaggs was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers, Clarence, Bud, Bob, Richard and Kenneth Burke.

She is survived by two sons; Hal Skaggs and wife Susan of Amarillo, and Gary Skaggs of Lubbock; and several nieces and nephews.
