Peggy Brice Stewart AGE: 84A Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be at Citizen’s Cemetery in Clarendon. Father Ray Crosier will officiate. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.Miss Stewart was born August 20, 1926 in Donley County to John and Vivian Stewart. She attended Clarendon High School, graduating in 1943. She attended Clarendon Junior College and graduated from St. Anthony’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1947, she then graduated from Barnes Hospital School of Anesthesia in 1953. She graduated from the University of Texas with a BS in Nursing in 1961, and an MS in Hospital Administration in 1969. She was the first Director of Nursing Service at the Psychiatric Pavilion. She worked diligently on the committee to establish a BS nursing program at West Texas State University, now West Texas A&M University and later in Sheridon, WY to establish an associate degree in nursing at the junior college. She spent the last 17 years of her career with the Veteran Administration Hospital serving in five different states. She retired in 1989 as Chief of Nursing Service of the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA in Loma Linda, CA.Miss Stewart believed as long as you had Jesus in your life, you had everything. She lived by Christian principles all of her days. She believed the most important things in life were attainted by honesty, integrity and hard work.She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ralph, Joseph, Larmar, and Hugh Stewart; and one niece, Sherry Burgess.She is survived by her sister, Johnnie Polk of Amarillo; five nephews; eleven nieces; eight grand-nephews; ten grand-nieces and eight great-grand-nieces and nephews. Except for the Lord, family was the most important thing in her life. We will miss her very much.
