Phillip “Phil” Lee Jordan age 64 of Amarillo died August 11, 2014 in Amarillo.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 15th at 10:00 AM at Hillside Christian Church South, 6901 South Bell. Rev. Craig Albracht will officiate. Burial will be held at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Phil was born on January 13, 1950 in Dumas, Texas to Omer and Dorthey Jordan. The family moved to Amarillo in 1956 where he attended Lamar Elementary, Fannin Jr High and graduated from Amarillo High in 1968. He then attended Oklahoma University. He played football for OU from 1968 until 1972 when he graduated with a BBA in Finance and Marketing. Phil then attended and graduated from Oklahoma City University Law School in 1976 earning his J.D. While attending law school, he was a member of Phi Delta Phi & Phi Delta Theta.
Phil’s professional career began in 1972 as a trust auditor at First National Bank in Oklahoma City, then as Clerk and Bailiff in the State District Courthouse also in Oklahoma until he moved to Amarillo in 1976 when he became the 47th District Assistant Attorney. In 1979, he went into private practice opening the Phil Jordan Law Firm.
He held many professional and civic affiliations including State Bar of Texas, Texas State Bar Family and Criminal Law, Fellow Texas Bar Foundation, College of the State Bar of Texas, Panhandle Criminal Defense Law Association, and the Panhandle Family Law Association just to name a few. He served as a board member for the Children’s Rehabilitation Center and Kid’s Incorporated. Phil was also a member of the Coors Cowboy Club, the O Club (University of Oklahoma), the Sandies Football Boosters Club and involved in numerous other professional and civic organizations.
Phil had a zeal for life. He was creative and passionate, while exhibiting an enormous amount of perseverance. He had many loves such attending OU games and flying. He received his pilot’s license in 1994. It was on March 26, 1987 that Phil married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Teal. It was then that his true passion was ignited and nothing would ever compare to the love he held for her, their daughters and later their families and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Judy Borchardt and a brother John Jordan.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM
Phil is survived by his wife; three daughters, Jennifer Akerman and her husband, John, and their children, Katie, Madison, and Jordan; Heather Baker and her husband Russ, and their children Nathan and Sam; and Amy Wolfle and her husband Tom and their children , Kyle, Chase, and Alex; and his two brothers Bill Jordan and Jorge Jordan.
