Phillip Miller, 68, of Groom died September 24, 2021.
Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the church. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in White Deer Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Phillip was born June 20, 1953 in Chickasha, OK to Joseph and Jean Miller. They moved to White Deer, TX when Phillip was in elementary school after his parents purchased, The White Deer and Panhandle Newspapers. After graduating from high school, Phil earned a degree from the University of Oklahoma before following in his father's footsteps of buying the Groom News in Groom, TX. Phil would continue for the next 30 years publishing weekly newspapers in Groom, Claude and Mclean. Shortly after retirement, Phil was elected into the Texas Newspaper Hall of Fame.
Phil was an avid University of Oklahoma sports fan. Most crazed by watching his Sooners play football on Saturdays but his support went far beyond football to all sports, from basketball to women's softball.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Miller in 2015: brother-in –law, Dalton Stewart.
Phil is survived by sons, Marcus Miller (Leslie) of Justin, TX and Matthew Phillip Miller (Ginger) of Roswell, NM; sister, Teri Stewart of Weatherford, TX; brother, Rodney Miller of Ninnekah, OK; mother, Jean Miller of White Deer, TX; and grandchildren, Cheyanne, Riley, Mason, Adeline, Jessie and Payton.
