After the Navy, he worked as a machinist while he attended Texas Tech.  Hired by the FAA, he worked as a controller in San Antonio, Plainview and Amarillo until retiring in 1992.  For the next 10 years, he worked with his son, Tim at Custom Propane Service.
He became a Boy Scout leader, a Civil Air Patrol Sponsor, an FFA mentor and later volunteered for Meals on Wheels.  Gib loved tinkering with his Studebakers and was an active member of the Panhandle Studebaker Club, the Amarillo Antique Car Club, Western Cowpunchers Association, and  St. Laurence Catholic church, serving in many capacities.
Gib and Dorella were married 62 years until she passed in January of 2012.  He found love and companionship again and married Lydia Lichtie in 2014.
Gib loved laughing, swapping tales and playing cards with family and friends.  He will be fondly remembered for his love of Studebakers, dancing, airplanes and country music.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorella, his son Patrick, brothers Billy and Johnny and wife Lydia.
He is survived by son, Dennis and wife Barbara of Lubbock, TX; daughter Raella Hartley and husband Kenneth of Payne Springs, TX; son Timothy and wife Amber of Fritch, TX; son Michael and wife Carla of Ames, IA; daughter Gaelyn Mann and husband Clif of Artesia, NM; 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, many "adopted" children and grandchildren and beloved family friends.
