Raymond A. Stephenson, age 77 of Amarillo died November 6, 2011 in Amarillo.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army
Rosary Service will be at 6:00 PM Friday at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Memorial Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Msgr. Harold Waldow of St. Mary’s Cathedral will officiate. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Mr. Stephenson was born in Conway, Texas on January 14, 1934 to Arthur and Susie Stephenson. The Stephenson family relocated to Panhandle, Texas, where they raised their children and are considered one of the pioneer families for the City of Panhandle.
He married Lorelei “Lori” Eklund on December 15, 1956 in Amarillo, Texas at The Sacred Heart Cathedral. The couple would have celebrated their 55th anniversary this year.
Mr. Stephenson was an Accountant for Ponca Wholesale and briefly drove the School bus for St. Joseph's Catholic School. He was the Head Truck Driving Instructor & Program Chairman for T.S.T.I., Amarillo Campus for 17 years and later drove for Jack B. Kelley and Plains Transportation. He was a member of St. Mary’s parish.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Susie Stephenson, two brothers, Richard Stephenson and Frank Stephenson; two sisters, Anna Lea Stephenson Russ Kiser and Cleo Stephenson Veteto; and a grandson, Randall Blake Griffin.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lori; two daughters, Rhea Jean Nava, Carla Griffin and her husband Jake Griffin; five grandchildren Jordan Nava, Tyler Nava, Jeana Dewald, Derek Griffin and Conner Griffin; four nephews, three nieces and his faithful friend, “Sassy."
