Rosary will be said 6:00 p.m. Monday at Schooler Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church with Rev. James Schmitmeyer as celebrant. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.
Rene E. Gunzelman, 93, of Amarillo, passed September 1, 2016. Rene and his family farmed for more than 30 years near Stratford, Texas. Since retiring from farming, he continued to manage his minerals and real estate business. Rene grew up in and around Wichita, Kansas, mostly in a farming community of German heritage. He graduated with a degree in medicine from Creighton University, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Rene believed strongly in education and passed that belief on to his children.
Rene is preceded in passing by his sister - Helen Pickett; his brothers - Hilary, Aloysius, and Linus “Tex” Gunzelman.
He is survived by his wife - Lala Mireles Gunzelman; his sister Sr. Verena Gunzelman, A.S.C.; his daughter Carol Lueders; his sons Stephen (Shari), Paul (Shauna), Jeffrey (Beth), David, and Brian (Joan); his 11 grandchildren; his five great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who love him.
